The new chapter sees Morpheus transform into a cat and help the writer find his lost inspiration
THE Netflix brought a gift from the world of dreams for fans of sand man. An extra episode was added to the season this Friday (19th), showing a little more of Morpheus’s (Tom Sturridge) influence in the waking world. And, respecting the dream character of the character, the bonus chapter plays a lot with the absurd.
The episode adapts two classic comic stories of the character: The dream of a thousand cats And calliope. And, as a sort of complement to the season, they function much more as isolated storylines than as an indication of what’s to come, which is far from a demerit.

The first was highly anticipated by fans precisely because of the more fantastic character of the thing. In the plot, Morpheus comes across a Siamese cat who dreams of a new world. And just as the show had already shown that different cultures see the King of Dreams in very specific ways, the same happens with pets. So, part of the new episode is an animation where Morpheus appears in feline form, a very different aesthetic from the other episodes, but one that fits the tone of the story well.
In the second half, called Calliope, things return to live action and the plot centers around a writer looking for inspiration.
Both are part of the album. the country of dreamsone of the most celebrated of the entire saga sand man because of this more dreamlike and almost fairytale character of the screenplays. And what’s more, it’s also a great way to kill Morpheus nostalgia after a great first season.
The curious thing is that the release of this extra episode wasn’t exactly a surprise. Netflix itself mistakenly released a video last week showing excerpts from this chapter. After seeing unreleased scenes, especially cats, fans quickly realized that something new was coming soon.
This new episode comes right between the premiere of She-Hulk And The house of the dragonthe main bets of rivals Disney + and HBO Max. So, Netflix looks genuinely willing to transform sand man in its new flagship in the struggle for subscribers.
