For about thirty years, Vincent Cassel has been one of the most famous and popular faces of French cinema. Revealed in 1995 in La Haine by Mathieu Kasowitz (a performance that earned him two César nominations, especially for the legendary mirror sequence), he knew how to change genres and registers during his rich career, with his charisma and unique appearance in many worlds.
First television appearance at the age of 25
For the role of the criminal Jacques Mesrin in the diptych of Cesaria Jean-François Richet, he has also been seen in famous feature films such as Le Pacte des loups, Ocean’s Twelve or Hors Normes. Julius Caesar for Guillaume Canet in The Last Asterix in live action, he is also the voice of Diego the Tiger in the Ice Age saga.
But before coming to the limelight, like many actors, Vincent Cassel honed his skills on the theater stage. In 1991, when he was only 25 years old, the French audience saw his face and heard his voice for the first time (although he had already played a small role in the cinema and appeared in several music videos).
Trap the ball
According to a video from the INA archive, Vincent Cassel spoke briefly on FR3 Alsace to discuss the theme of the piece he was playing at the time.
“The title of the play? ‘Ball Trap’, with only one ‘l’, because it’s the ball where scores are settled and where couples throw all their problems at each other. Everything must be settled that evening in this village square.”he explained.
Following in the footsteps of his father (actor Jean-Pierre Cassel), the young actor quickly made his way to the front of the stage and to the cinema, and later played the role of Vince in La Haine.
