With imported engines, Toyota’s production in Brazil resumed last Monday with the Corolla Cross and Corolla, after a 40-day shutdown
Last Monday, 3, Toyota resumed production of the Corolla and Corolla Cross at its plants in Sorocaba (SP) and Indaiatuba (SP), with imported engines. The announcement comes 40 days after a storm caused extensive damage to the Japanese brand’s engine factory in Porto Feliz (SP).
Production will return with the Corolla Hybrid and Corolla Cross
Initially, the Corolla and Corolla Cross hybrid models will be produced by the end of the year, intended for the Brazilian market and export. To achieve this, Toyota will rely on components and engines imported from other brand factories abroad. Production at Toyota’s two plants will occur at a faster pace, to compensate for the days of downtime.
From 2026, the brand will again produce combustion versions of the duo, as well as the export-only Yaris Hatch. Both will also mount imported engines, in a flex version.
Yaris Cross will have a new launch date
The Yaris Cross will still have a new launch date. Expected for October, the SUV could be presented in 2025, with sales and deliveries starting next year. The same goes for the Porto Feliz (SP) plant, which will resume engine production only in mid-2026.
