This is a success story. After a few years in the theater, the name of Maria, the insidious and authoritarian old farmer and his son, Christian, in the shoes of a benevolent and naive old bachelor, Les Bodin’s, a comic duo formed by Vincent Dubois. And Jean-Christian Frysin, went to the movies in 2008 with Mariage chez les Bodin’s (the second highest-grossing French film of the year, behind Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis), then in 2010 with Amélie chez les Bodin’s.
Directed by Eric Le Roche, the first opus is essentially based on their sketches, and its sequel is completely innovative. At the same time, Les Bodin continued to triumph on stage. In 2019, the broadcast of their show “Les Bodin’s grandeur nature” on the M6 took first place with almost 5 million viewers.
Thus, in 2021, the duo takes on an unexpected gamble thanks to director Frederick Forrestier (Asterix at the Olympics), who transports the characters from the center region to the land of smiles with a good dose of action in Les Bodin’s, Thailand.
A real surprise card, the film garnered 1.6 million responses in just three weeks, from a very good start at the box office and a sold-out provincial preview tour.
