Already saddened by the cancellation of the Batgirl movie, directors Adil El Arbi and Bilal Fallah were in for another nasty surprise when they discovered they couldn’t even restore the footage they shot.
Canceled by Warner Bros. Studios in early August while it was in full post-production, the Batgirl movie isn’t set to see the light of day anytime soon. The duo found out the news while attending Adil El Arbi’s wedding in Morocco and shared their grief on Instagram, as did lead actress Leslie Grace, who played Barbara Gordon aka Batgirl.
Fans still hope that the project will be implemented, even if it is in a few years, as it was Snyder Cut of Justice League.
Batgirl pictures are blocked!
But for that, directors Adil El Arbi and Bilal Falha (Bad Boys for Life) had to be able to finish what they started. Because there would still be a lot of work, as they promised in an interview with the channel script :
“It can’t come out like this, there are no special effects, nothing. There are still scenes that we have to shoot. If it comes out one day, they should give us a chance. Finish the movie the way we really wanted, with our vision.”
Several reasons have been cited for the cancellation of Batgirl, including disastrous test screenings, but primarily Warner Bros. and DC’s strategy influenced the decision. DC Extended Universe’s new strategy relies on producing high-potential movies in theaters, and David Zaslav of Warner Bros. Discovery’s vision seems to fit this strategy:
“The guys at Warner told us, ‘It’s not because of your talent or the talent of the actor or the quality of the film.’ Because there was still a lot of work, a lot of work, that “there was still work. must be done. The film is not finished. But they told us that this is a change of strategy. This is new management. They can save money.”
Is there still hope for Batgirl? It’s hard to say… especially since the directors no longer have access to their images! Indeed, they confide that they have not been able to recover the speed of their film:
“I went to the server and everything was blocked. There was no way to access the movie. And we were like, ‘F*ck, sh*t! Every scene with Batman!”
At the moment, there’s no indication that Adil El Arbi and Bilal Falha will be able to finish the Batgirl movie, but it’s looking very difficult.
