Mads Mikkelsen reveals what it was like to take on the role of Gellert Grindelwald in the third installment of the Fantastic Beasts franchise after Johnny Depp’s departure
Mads Mikkelseninterpreter of Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore’s Secrets (2022), shared how it felt to assume the role of the villain after leaving Johnny Depp of the franchise. The star commented on the experience in an interview with Supanova Comic-con and Gaming.
Mikkelsen revealed what it was like to participate in the franchise with it in progress: “Yeah, I was thrown into this a little later than the rest of the gang. I mean, they did two movies and they were halfway through. [Os Segredos de Dumbledore] when I joined the party.”

Despite this, the protagonist of Hannibal (2013) highlighted that he felt welcomed by the team: “It is a family that, when visiting, can only hope that they will adopt him – and they did.”
“The whole class is fantastic, the team is fantastic, [o diretor] David [Yates] it’s fantastic – and if they’re family, [David] is the best man and he has done it so many times he makes everyone feel right at home. My journey was quick, but I felt at home right away.” Mikkelsen.
Grindelwald was originally played by Johnny Depp in the first two films of the saga. the actor of Pirates of the Caribbean(2003) was released from the franchise in November 2020 after starring in a long controversy with his ex-wife. Amber Heard.
Reports indicated that the Warner Bros. was concerned with how the controversies of depp would affect the release and reception of the third film in the franchise fantastic animals – and eventually, the star was asked to step down from the villain role.
Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore’s Secrets accompanies the protagonist of Eddie Redmayne, Newt Scamanderand his friends working with Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) to prevent Gellert Grindelwald (Mikkelsen) of war with the Muggle world.
