The film paints a portrait of the holy monster, Jules Maugen (Gérard Depardieu), at the height of the actor’s fame in the 70s, revealing a male intimacy beneath the celebrity.
The feature film is adapted from the novel of the same name by Georges Simenon, published in 1950 by Presses de la Cité. Ironically, Gerard Depardieu played Maigre in the movie this year, also adapted from the Belgian novelist.
