From his unforgettable duel against the Balrog in Moria, to his mythical face-off with Théoden, to his many words of wisdom, Gandalf, played by Ian McKellen in Peter Jackson’s trilogy, has given us countless movie moments.
So many are asking: after The Lord of the Rings, the wizard (whose age is not really known), could he also be involved in The Rings of Power, available on Amazon Prime Video this Friday, September 2?
Unfortunately for fans, when we look a bit more into the history of Middle-earth that Tolkien developed, we quickly realize that such a case is unlikely.
Indeed, the series is supposed to take place in the second age, several thousand years before the events described in The Lord of the Rings.
However, according to Tolkien’s mythology, Gandalf did not arrive in Middle-earth until 1000 AD. Originally living in the undead lands of Valinor, she was sent by the Valar along with four other mages known as the Istari to investigate the return of an evil power (actually Sauron’s).
It is therefore unlikely (if not impossible) that we meet Gandalf in Middle-earth in the “Rings of Power”. On the other hand, if some sequence of the series takes place in Valinor (as some of the footage in the trailer might suggest), we might see it there.

Anyway, Lord of the Rings fans will find some of the characters from Peter Jackson’s trilogy in the cast of the Amazon Prime Video series.
In addition to the Dark Lord Sauron, whose return to Middle-earth will be at the center of the story, we will also see:
- Galadriel, a famous elven lady who seems to have fought many battles before, but still refuses to believe that evil has been completely eradicated.

- Elrond, lord of the elves and future father of Arwen, who is clearly trying to convince Galadriel that Middle-earth is indeed peaceful.
- Isildur, ancestor of Aragorn, seen at the beginning of Sauron’s defeat Ბekhdi brotherhoodBy the force of one, to decay.
- Elendil, his father, who is killed by Sauron during the Third Alliance of Men and Elves.

- Gil-Galad, the elven lord, also appears in the prologue of the trilogy and will undoubtedly play a major role in the series.
- Durin III, who appears on one Lord of the Rings blueprint and is the owner of one of the 7 rings entrusted to the dwarves.
