Actress Danielle Fishel (“It’s a Young Man’s World”) and singer Lance Bass (former member of the N’Sync band) will shoot a film about their previous relationship and Bass’s sexual discovery. The duo shared the news during the “Pod Meets World” podcast.
“Lance and I are working on a film about our love story and our prom experience,” explained Fishel. “I dated Lance for about a year while I was on ‘The World Is Young’. It was my senior year and Lance came with me to the high school prom.”
The actress recalls that she was planning to marry the singer. “I have long hoped that we would get back together, get married and have a family,” she said. “Turns out I’m not Lance’s type,” she added, referring to Bass publicly coming out as gay in 2006.
The idea of shooting the film around prom is important to Bass because, according to him, this was a turning point in his life. “I think a lot of people can identify with that story,” he said. “For so many people in the LGBTQ + community, prom night was the night they said, ‘Oh wait a minute. This can’t happen anymore.’ This was the catalyst that made me start accepting myself. , which led to a long time after that, but that was definitely the first straw. “
At the time, the two even booked a hotel room to go after the prom. And that made Bass very nervous all night.
“Lance and I had a wonderful, very warm and loving relationship, but it was completely lacking in intimacy – intimacy in the romantic sense,” Fishel said. “Lance and I had booked a hotel room and I had a vision of what that night would be like and Lance was very nervous about what my vision would be for that night. Pained at not being honest with himself or with anyone else about what was going on in his life, so it was kind of an impulse for him to say, ‘I’m going to end our relationship.’ “
He ended the relationship two weeks later, arguing, at first, that the problem was distance. Fishel said she was devastated and that her mother was the first person to raise the possibility that Bass was gay, something she Fishel promptly said was not true.
Despite this end of their relationship, Fishel and Bass are friends to this day.
The film about their relationship will be written by actresses Lauren Lapkus (“The Wrong Missy”) and Mary Holland (“Warning?”). There is no premiere date yet.
Danielle Fishel recently reprized the role of Topanga Matthews, her “The World Is For Young People” character, on Disney Channel’s “Girl Meets World”.
Lance Bass, in turn, has made several appearances in film and on TV, such as in the horror “The Cursed” (2005), in the comedy “I Pronounce Them Husband … and Larry” (2007) and in the series “Single Parents”.
