Are there plans for a sequel to the superhero movie Samaritan, available August 26 on Amazon Prime Video?
Please note that the following is a detailed description of the plot – and more specifically the ending – of the film The Samaritan with Sylvester Stallone, which is available on Amazon Prime Video. If you haven’t seen it yet and don’t want to know anything about its content, I suggest you stop reading this article now.
On Friday, August 26, the Amazon Prime Video platform presented the first superhero movie starring Sylvester Stallone, Samaritan. The interpreter of Rocky and Rambo lends his qualities to Joe Smith, an elderly garbage collector who is forced out of retirement by young neighbor Sam Clare (Jeavon Walton) to play vigilante again.
A vigilante, yes, but not a superhero. A surprise revelation at the end of the movie really taught us that Joe is not the Samaritan, but his sworn enemy Nemesis! Haunted by past crimes and the death of his twin in a recent confrontation, the old man did everything he could to convince Sam that he wasn’t “Who Does He Think He Is”.
An unexpected ending, but also an open one, because the feature of the film (taken from the original script, not from the comics) is to take place after the time of the Samaritan, whose story is told after the prologue. A series of flashback scenes. That’s why many Prime Video subscribers are wondering if a sequel could ever see the light of day.
Unfortunately, none of the projects promoting the Samaritan story seem relevant. Of course, never say never, and it will all depend on the platform getting the film to see Stallone re-enroll in Second Samaritan (or maybe a spin-off, this time called Nemesis ?).
The option of a prequel is also not excluded, but here again nothing is decided, especially since the production of the film, which requires the digital rejuvenation of its main actor, will be very expensive. And needless to say, it’s going to be difficult — if not impossible — to find a credible actor to play the young Stallone.
The movie Samaritan is now available only on Amazon Prime Video.
