A return to Middle-earth is imminent! On September 2nd at 3am, the public will finally be able to discover the first two episodes of The Rings of Power event series based on JRR Tolkien’s massive work.
Before we dive into the heart of this fantastic world, the question will certainly concern fans of Peter Jackson’s trilogies: The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. When is The Rings of Power set in the Saga timeline?
The series takes place 7,000 years before The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. It deals with major events that took place in Middle-earth during the Second Age.
Thus we will be able to discover the history of the creation of the Rings of Power, the history of the island kingdom of NĂºmenor, the rise of Sauron and the final alliance between Men and Elves and Men.
These events take place over several thousand years in Tolkien’s books. For purposes of the series, timelines are compressed.
“You must know that The Lord of the Rings, or even The Hobbit, which takes place about sixty years ago, is the end of a Middle-earth timeline that stretches from the creation of the world.”explains Romain Bays, manager of the LeStream channel on Twitch and founder of the site big pop.
“There were a number of cuts that we call eras. The Lord of the Rings takes place at the end of the third era: it’s the complete end of everything Tolkien wrote.
On the other hand, we have millennia that go before, tens of millennia even, a whole history that remembers the lives of elves, humans, dwarves, orcs, gods, demigods, and even an overlord. God who was there before the creation of Middle Earth”The Lord of the Rings saga specialist explains.
Therefore, the series is developing in the second age. According to Romain Bayes, we should say that between three and seven thousand years before The Lord of the Rings.
“We need to focus on the end of the Second Age, which will allow us to connect with the prologue of Peter Jackson’s trilogy after The Fellowship of the Ring opened with the voice of Galadriel and images of the great battle.” It was the last one. The battle of the second century”.he notes.
“This is a particularly interesting era, for if the First Age is more about Elves and the Third Age about Humans, we are here in a period approaching the greatest mixing among the free peoples of Middle-earth.”concludes Romain Bays.
The first two episodes of The Rings of Power will be available on September 2nd on Amazon Prime Video.
