In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, director Chris Columbus pointed to a classic fantasy and horror film in the film’s main scene: The Final Confrontation.
Harry Potter at the Vampire School? The first opus of the adventures of the little spectacled wizard, Harry Potter, the Witch Stone, in its last third includes an astonishing scene in which the young protagonist confronts Professor Quirrell, played by Ian Hart. A scene reminiscent of a famous horror movie.
At this culmination of the film, Voldemort, who holds Kvirel’s body like a parasite, wants to grab a philosophical stone that can turn lead into gold and an elixir of longevity. On his way stands a young Harry who has more resources than he thinks.
In a Blu-ray audio commentary on the film, director Chris Columbus claims that in this scene of controversy, Kvirli / Harry refers to the mythical scene of a fantasy movie starring a famous vampire figure:
We paid tribute to one of the favorite movies of the 50s: Dracula’s Nightmare, in which Christopher Lee finally falls apart. I even think I borrowed the scene from the end of the movie when Peter Cushing defeats Christopher Lee.
Indeed, in Harry Potter, as Dracula’s nightmare, the two antagonists slowly decay because they knew of their impending and fateful destruction:

Kvireli / Dracula, same fight
Dracula’s Nightmare is a horror film produced by the British studio Hammer, which just started after crossing the desert with The Monster (The Quatermass Xperiment, 1955), and then Frankenstein fled (1957). A year later, they transformed the figure of Dracula into Dracula’s nightmare, worn by Imperial Christopher Lee, hunting for Van Helsing, played by Peter Cushing (Grand Moff Tarkin in Star Wars).
Lee returns to the role of this much more sensual and provocative Dracula than the protagonist’s previous incarnations to Hammer six times, creating a memorable saga about 60s movies. A saga that obviously did not escape Chris Columbus!
Do you know the date of birth of these Harry Potter characters?
