Two adult Netflix cartoons, “Arcane” and “Love, Death + Robots,” were the first winners of the Emmy animation categories, in a ceremony held Saturday night (3/9) in Los Angeles.

Both series impressed the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences with their bold looks, created by state-of-the-art computer graphics.

“Love, Death + Robots” won the Emmy for Best Animated Short for the third consecutive time with the episode “Jibaro”, of its third season. One of the directors of “Jibaro”, Alberto Mielgo, also won an Individual Achievement trophy. Additionally, the attraction won Emmy for outstanding sound editing.

With tonight’s wins, the production of directors Tim Miller (“Deadpool”) and David Fincher (“Fight Club”) has reached 14 Emmys, out of a total of 15 nominations since its release in 2019. An impressive feat.

“Arcane”, in turn, won an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program for the episode “When These Walls Come Tumbling Down”, becoming the first streaming production to be considered the best animated series of the year.

The attraction also received three Individual Achievement trophies for the great work of its animators.

The series is set in the “League of Legends” (LoL) game universe and tells the origins of two players’ favorite characters: sisters Vi and Jinx, iconic champions of the League, who grew up with a huge rivalry due to different visions of world.

The careful production, with many fighting and action scenes, had its animation digitally developed by the Fortiche studio in Paris.

The animation awards were part of the first part of the Creative Arts Emmy, as the preliminary categories of the Emmys are called.

With the Television Academy Awards totaling 119 categories, the Emmy is divided into three evenings. The first two evenings are dedicated to technical trophies, animations, documentaries, variety specials and reality shows, and take place this weekend. The main Emmys will be awarded on September 12, during a gala ceremony in Los Angeles.
