Actor Nathan Lane won the Emmy for Best Guest Actor in a Comedy Series at a ceremony held Sunday night (4/9) in Los Angeles. He was honored for his participation in the “Only Murders in the Building” series, after being nominated six times in the same category for other series – from “Frasier” in 1995 to “Modern Family” in 2014.

The difference from previous roles is that Lane’s participation is recurring in “Only Murders in the Building”. In the Hulu / Star + series he plays Teddy Dimas, owner of Dimas Delis and sponsor of the lead podcast (starring Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez). He appeared in seven episodes of the two seasons already available, but won for the chapter “The Boy from 6B”, from season 1.

The Emmy Award Winner for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series was Laurie Metcalf for her role in “Hacks”. The veteran star, who competed for an Oscar for “Lady Bird” (2017), played the character of Weed in two episodes of the second season of the HBO series Max.

Sunday’s prizes are the second part of the Emmy’s approximately 90 preliminary categories, ahead of the 27 main prizes.

With the Television Academy Awards totaling 119 categories, the Emmy is divided into three evenings. The first two evenings are dedicated to technical trophies, animations, documentaries, variety specials and reality shows, and take place this weekend. The main Emmys will be awarded on September 12, in a televised ceremony in Los Angeles.
