Nothing new on the front: Netflix presents a new version of the war classic

Netflix has released the poster and trailer for “Nothing New on the Front”, a new version of the war classic written by Erich Maria Remarque about the German countryside during the First World War.

The original storyline was created from Remarque’s experience in war. The story revolves around a young German idealist who, driven by the patriotism of his masters, enlists to fight for the country. But instead of glories, he finds unpreparedness, extreme violence and madness at the front, witnessing the deaths of his classmates one after another.

The book had already been adapted for cinema in 1930, directed by Lewis Milestone, and won the Oscar for best picture. This is the first German adaptation, directed by Edward Berger (from the series “Deutschland 83” and “Your Honor”) and a cast featuring Sebastian Hülk (“Dark”), Daniel Brühl (“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” ), Albrecht Schuch (“Berlin Alexanderplatz”), Anton von Lucke (“Frantz”) and Devid Striesow (“I was at home, but …”).

The world premiere will take place on September 12 at the Toronto Film Festival.

The streaming release is scheduled for October 28th.
