Mad Max: Furiosa isn’t the only Fury Road prequel written by George Miller!

Mad Max: Furiosa isn’t the only Fury Road prequel written by George Miller!

While Furiosa, the prequel to Mad Max centered around the youth of Charlize Theron’s heroine in Fury Road, hits theaters on May 22, 2024, director George Miller has revealed that he has written another prequel in the form of a novel.

After the successful return of Mad Max: Fury Road in 2015, George Miller is preparing to tell the story of Furiosa’s youth in a prequel centered on the character played by Charlize Theron in Fury Road.

In this new installment of the post-apocalyptic franchise, Anya Taylor-Joy portrays a younger version of the character, while Chris Hemsworth portrays the villain. Slated to hit our darkrooms on May 22, 2024, the film was born in the director’s mind during the production of Fury Road.

While shooting the 2015 film, the actors needed to know their character’s backstory. In order to explain to the actors the world around them and the events of the film, the director recorded the past of his characters, which made him want to direct Furiosa.

But in the interview AV ClubGeorge Miller reveals that he also wrote a prequel to the Mad Max character (Tom Hardy in the last film).

“Nico Laturris and I also wrote not a script, but something more like a novel, about what happened to Max before the events of Fury Road, and that’s something we’re saving for later..”

The latter adds: “While telling the story of Furiosa, I realized to the Fury Road team that it was necessary to explain the backstory of their character to the other actors. I have in mind the story of the Doof Warrior, the flame-throwing guitarist. How. Can a blind man who can only play guitar survive in the desert? How did it get there? So we wrote little stories for each character when we were making Fury RoaD.”

If Furiosa does well at the box office, there’s a good chance George Miller will continue his momentum with various prequels.

Tom Hardy in Mad Max: Fury Road

A prequel to Tom Hardy’s Mad Max?

Thus, Tom Hardy’s Mad Max may be eligible for a solo film. After the director reveals that he has written a story that unfolds “Before the events of Fury RoadTherefore, Tom Hardy can resume his role. This is not the case with Furiosa, as the prequel takes place 15 years before the events related in the 2015 film.

The good news is that these films are not dictated by the studios, but are born out of the filmmaker’s curiosity and desire to create a world around his characters. It remains to be seen whether the studio will green-light any other films related to the Mad Max saga, and whether the story already written by Miller will be the subject of a film or novel…

While Furiosa, Three Thousand Years awaits, the director’s latest feature alongside Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba hits theaters on August 24.
