In 2009 the first edition of the Film Festival was launched in Spain, an idea originating in France, and in these 13 years and nineteen editions it has become a reference action for the industry and for the spectator. During these years, the event has been adapting to different mechanics until finding a formula adapted to the Spanish market.

The success of the event has crossed borders. First it was Italy that followed suit and was also encouraged to launch its own initiative. Now in this same month of September, similar initiatives have been held with great success in the United Kingdom and the United States, under the name ‘National Cinema Day’. In Mexico they have also been animated, using the same denomination of ‘Film Festival’, as in Germany, called ‘Das Kinofest’.
