According to the Indie Wire website, the director said, however, that he would not use that term to describe his project. “A sequel is an American concept. It would be more like the chronicles of Elio, the chronicles of this boy becoming a man. It’s something I want to do,” he said.
In the original feature film, inspired by the book of the same name written by André AcimanChalamet’s character falls in love with Oliver, an academic lived by Armie Martello who spends a summer at Elio’s home in Italy to help research the young man’s father.
Aciman even released a sequel to the book in 2019, titled Meet mebut, according to Guadagnino’s idea, the sequence on the screens would not follow the same direction as that of literature.
The director and Chalamet formed a good relationship while filming the film in 2017 and are now unveiling a new collaboration, the feature film. Bones and allpresented in world premiere on Friday 2 at the 79th Venice Film Festival.

Controversy by Armie Hammer
The reason the director’s plans for a sequel have changed may have to do with recent controversies involving actor Armie Hammer, who plays Oliver in Call me by your name.
The first allegations against the artist surfaced in January 2021, when he leaked messages revealing extreme sexual fantasies, such as cannibalism and violence.
Soon after, Hammer was accused of rape by a young woman who claims she had an affair with him while he was still married to TV celebrity Elizabeth Chambers.
He ended up having a job canceled and was seen working as a salesperson in the Cayman Islands in July of this year, despite denying the information.
On September 2, a series arrived on Discovery + revealing the details of the allegations of abuse, harassment and cannibalism involving the actor and the toxic environment in which he grew up. However, the production was criticized by one of the victims.
