‘Spiderman: No Way Home’: what happens in the new post-credits scene?

The theatrical release of the extended version of ‘No Way Home’, starring Tom Holland, has resolved one of the big questions at the end of the film.

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home‘ will return to theaters in Spain, on September 23, with an extended version, under the title: ‘Spiderman: No Way Home – The More Fun Version‘. In addition to knowing that this version will include more content throughout the film, we have discovered, (with its premiere in the US and Mexico), that it will also features a new post-credits scene, which reveals more information than meets the eye.

In its original theatrical release, the post-credits scene was a “teaser” of what we would later see in ‘Doctor Strange: Into the Multiverse of Madness‘. It is not surprising that this scene is no longer of interest in this revival, so it has been replaced by another that delves deeper into the events that occurred after the end of the film.

Although the film has not been released in much of the world, information about the images has spread like wildfire. If you do not want a SPOILER of what you will see in the cinema in the coming weeks, we recommend that you stop reading here. From what it seems, the scene is moving, and it will solve one of the great doubts that the creators left the fans in ‘No Way Home’.

As many will remember, at the end of the third ‘Spiderman’ movie in the Marvel Phase 4the Doctor Strange cast a spell to make everyone forget who Peter Parker is, and thus save the world from disaster. Therefore, we ended the story seeing how MJ was with Peter in the cafeteria and, although there was tension involved, she did not recognize him.

In the new post-credits scene, we see one of the classic school reports starring Betty Brant, about her experience in the high school years. It’s certainly been a pretty dramatic time, with near-death experiences, and having literally disintegrated because of Thanos. Nevertheless, there is a small detail that is very interesting.

We see footage of MJ, Ned, Flash, and even Liz from ‘Homecoming’, over the years, but one thing stands out: Peter’s “absence.” The curious thing is not that Peter has disappeared from the photos, but that he has gone into the background. To the plane of the unknown. In a photo we see his face covered by a bird flying through the air. Also her back as she talks to Ned, in another. What there is no spotlight on itsince Betty clearly doesn’t know him, so she made no effort to include him in the montage.

When the original film was released, there was a debate among fans about how Peter’s “erasure” would play out. If it would be similar to the one seen in ‘Back to the Future’, one of the best movies of time travel and temporary loops; and Peter would fade from all images that included him.

The writers Chris Mckenna Y Erik Sommers confirmed, in 2021, that they had planned something similar to these classicsbut who preferred to concentrate on narrating the “emotion of the moment“, and solve the doubt in another film later.”Obviously some kind of magical reaction has occurred. But we also didn’t want people to do a lot of “mathematics” on the matter just yet.McKenna commented.

It seems that the answer has come in the movie itself, only in an extended version. The fact that Peter appears, however briefly, in some of Betty’s files means that Strange’s spell hasn’t banished him from all records on the planet.. Simply, no one who sees them will know who he is and why he is there.

Of course, this movie could be considered outside the canon of Marvel if they wanted But the fact having included this scene in the new montage means that it will have a lot to do with how the events will unfold in the future of ‘Spiderman’.
