New Amsterdam: Does Ryan Eggold (Max) blame Freema Agyeman (Helen) for leaving the series?

New Amsterdam fans were in for a surprise last July… indeed, before the medical series is about to begin its fifth and final season, Freema Agyeman announced that she will not be participating in this final go-round. A decision carefully considered by the actor, who then left a tender message to the community of the show.

In her text, the actress, who played Dr. Helen Sharp, thanked the teams and followers of American fiction: “My dear New Amsterdam family. First of all, I want to thank you for your endless, unwavering and deliciously fierce support. (…) What an adventure! Thank you for living with me.”

Weeks after this completely unexpected revelation, Ryan Eggold spoke to TV Line about the sudden release of the man who played his precious and tender on-screen sidekick. He explains that he found out the news shortly before the end of season 4.
