Much controversy has been generated around the cancellation of the Warner Bros. Discovery movie “Batgirl”. But the company’s Chief Financial Officer, Gunnar Wiedenfels, has now said the fact has been exaggerated by the media.
The cancellation came after several changes made by Warner Bros. Discovery through its companies, including HBO Max, whose platform has seen several titles disappear without warning. Although the decision generated a lot of debate, Wiedenfels debunked the event at a recent Bank of America conference via Collider.
While there was information stating that the cancellation was due to “Batgirl’s” poor performance in terms of ratings and financial problems, the CFO said it was just a fluke in show business.
“I don’t think that’s unusual, we are a creative industry and one of the elements of creativity is that there are judgments and opinions about what the potential of a certain piece of intellectual property is,” said Wiedenfels of the film “Batgirl”.
He also challenged the notion that the cancellation of Batgirl damaged the company’s reputation in the industry. “I think the media likes to talk about the media,” she said, adding, “We have healthy relationships with talent and are providing one of the best platforms for anyone in the creative space.”
Despite the controversy generated by the cancellation of “Batgirl” and other recent decisions by the entertainment conglomerate, Wiedenfels reiterated that the new strategy and leadership will enable new stories to be created.
“The first priority was to get the team right, and I think [o CEO da Warner Bros.
