Jason Sudeikis won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for “Ted Lasso” at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards Monday night (9/12). He was keen to congratulate his colleagues Steve Martin, Martin Short and Bill Hader, who competed in the category, before moving up and saying that he was not prepared to win in the face of the competition.
Despite the modesty, it was the actor’s second consecutive Emmy win for playing the title character of “Ted Lasso”. He joins Brett Goldstein, who won an Emmy for Best Supporting Actor for the Apple TV + series.
In addition to acting, Sudeikis is also one of the creators, writers and producers of “Ted Lasso”, along with Bill Lawrence (creator of “Scrubs” and “Cougar Town”).
The series revolves around the title character, an American football manager who is hired to work on an English football team despite having no experience in the sport that US residents call football.
With an uplifting message of overrun, production has become a cultural phenomenon, breaking Apple TV + audience record at the launch of its second season, when it became the most watched premiere in the platform’s history.
