Paramount has released a collection of posters and the jaw-dropping trailer for “Babylon,” which reunites stars Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie after “Once Upon a Time in … Hollywood,” in a new story of old Hollywood. But the production is even crazier than the previous work, with impressive excesses of sex, drugs and … jazz!
The vibe is “F * ck, yeah!” As Brad Pitt says to a crazed Robbie, after she asked, “Who wants to see me fight a snake?” And it celebrates an era when movie stars knew no bounds. Do you know the legends of Led Zeppelin and Mötley Crüe groupie parties? Stories of old wives close to what the first Hollywood stars lived.
Most of the characters in the film are fictional, but inspired by real people. After playing Sharon Tate in Quentin Tarantino’s film, Robbie plays a cocaine addict version of Clara Bow, sex symbol of the golden age of American cinema, known as the “It girl” during the transition from silent to talkie, while Pitt is another silent movie star, based on real-life actor John Gilbert, who has a hard time adjusting to the technological changes caused by sound reinforcement.
The plot takes liberties to follow the rise and fall of its characters, both fictional and historical, during the jazz era of the late 1920s, marked by prohibition and also by all kinds of decadence and excesses.
The big cast also includes Tobey Maguire (“Spider-Man: Homeless”), Samara Weaving (“Bloody Wedding”), Olivia Wilde (“The Richard Jewell Case”), Jovan Adepo (“Watchmen”), Li Jun Li (” Evil “), Jean Smart (” Hacks “), PJ Byrne (” The Boys “), Lukas Haas (” The Revenant “), Olivia Hamilton (” La La Land “), Max Minghella (” The Handmaid’s Tale “)” ), Rory Scovel (“Physicist”), Katherine Waterston (“Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore’s Secret”), Eric Roberts (“Inherent Addiction”), Ethan Suplee (“Dog”), Phoebe Tonkin (“The Originals”), Jeff Garlin (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”) and bassist Flea (“Queen & Slim”) of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The film is written and directed by Damien Chazelle, director of the award-winning “Whiplash” and “La La Land”, and is scheduled for release in the United States for Christmas this year, with the aim of earning nominations for the Oscar 2023. In Brazil, however, the first will not happen until January 19.
