The “Karate Kid” franchise is getting a new movie

The “Karate Kid” franchise is about to have a new movie. The announcement was made by the Sony studio, which has also scheduled the premiere date: June 7, 2024.

However, the only additional information provided by the studio is that the date will mark “the return of the original ‘Karate Kid’ franchise”.

That is, it’s not a remake, like the one released in 2010 and starring Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith. Instead, the new film should focus on the original cast, thus building on the success of the “Cobra Kai” series.

Internet speculation suggests the film may promote the meeting between Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Julie Pierce (Hilary Swank), finally reuniting the protagonists of “The Karate Kid: The Moment of Truth” (1984) and “Karate Kid. 4: The New Adventure “(1994).

Another possibility raised is that the film could be a sort of “final episode” of “Cobra Kai”, as Sony also produces the series.

None of this has been confirmed. More details will be released shortly.
