Forty years after Ridley Scott’s film, the Blade Runner universe continues to inspire screens big and small. The Prime Video platform announces the acquisition of Blade Runner 2099, a major new project that follows Denis Villeneuve’s 2017 feature film.
Ridley Scott will not return behind the camera, but will produce the show with his company Scott Free Productions, while Silka Louise – along with Shining Girls screenwriter Elizabeth Moss – will write the episodes.
As its title suggests, this new chapter takes place 50 years after the events of Blade Runner 2049. In his statement, Amazon Studios co-president Vernon Sanders explains that the sequel will remain faithful to “.The intelligence, themes and wit of previous films.”
For 40 years, Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner has established itself as one of the greatest science fiction films of all time. Classic previously created a series — this time animated — called Blade Runner: Black Lotus, which aired on Adult Swim in November 2021. The action takes place 13 years after the events of the original.
Blade Runner 2099, coming soon to Prime Video.
