But who is this mysterious stranger who fell from the sky at the end of the first episode of Rings of Power?
Since the arrival of this strange character in the Amazon Prime Video series, the Internet has been flooded with fan theories about his identity. While some first mentioned the incarnation of Sauron, until now most of the hypotheses favored the “Gandalf” option.
Indeed, the relationship established between the stranger and Pivellus (the ancestors of the hobbits), his full beard, his dress, his posture, his way of whispering words incomprehensible to the fireflies, and his impressive powers were arguments that at first glance allowed. , to connect this curious character with the famous wizard of Lord of the Rings.
A scenario that was nonetheless connected to Tolkien’s writings – in which Gandalf would not be wandering Middle-earth at this time – but which would allow the series to include a hero well known to the general public.
However, after episode 4 airs on Prime Video this Friday, the cards have turned!
In any case, that’s what the dialogue between Waldreg and young Theo at the end of the episode might suggest about the evil sword the latter discovered. During the discussion, the old man indeed evokes Sauron’s return and directly links this event to the falling star that transported the stranger.
“Do you know what it is? It is not a sword, but a power made for our ancestors by the hand of his master. A great servant who lost himself, but will return. Have you heard of him? Do you know Sauron’s name? Surely you saw him in the sky a few weeks ago .”Thus reveals Waldreg, who speaks of the crushed star.
“It’s her time and you and I, my boy, are ready.”
By saying these words, did old Valdreg simply reveal that the stranger who had fallen from the sky was in fact Sauron? This is what one would believe at first glance. But things may not be so simple after all. Indeed, in the original version, Waldreg does not say “His hour is at hand” But “It means his time is near.”
The arrival of the shooting star, if it is undoubtedly connected with the return of Sauron, then the latter’s transport did not necessarily occur and can only be the result of this return. The hypothesis of “Gandalf”, who, let’s remember, was sent to Middle-earth by the Valar to fight against Sauron, is still quite convincing.
Be that as it may, it’s clear that this little sequence threw off the tracks considerably, and the series seems determined to keep fans in suspense until the last moment.
What do you think about the foreigner? is it sauron Gandalf? From another character?
