The work tells the true story of the murder of several members of the Osage Indian tribe in Oklahoma. They were killed after oil was found on their land in the 1920s.
The FBI is in charge of the investigation through the character played by Jesse Plemons. The film also marks the reunion of two of Scorsese’s favorite actors, Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro.
It is screenwriter Eric Roth (Forrest Gump) who is adapting David Grann’s book on which the film is based. About working on this piece, he confided to Collider’s microphone.
“I am working on this project in the 5th or 6th year”He said in April 2021. Roth then recalls that many changes were made, most notably DiCaprio’s role, which was swapped out for the role that Jesse Plemons will take over.
The latter gives his features to Texas Ranger Tom White, who investigates the Osage murders. As for DiCaprio, he will portray William Hale’s (Robert De Niro) nephew, Ernest Burkhart.
The screenwriter specifies that the two actors will have almost equal screen presence, addressing a rumor that claimed Leo would only be a secondary character in the story:
“I wouldn’t say Plemons is the lead. I would say he’s the designated hero. In terms of their presence in the film, they’re equal. They just don’t have the same role. Leo is very complex and interesting. It’s a brave role and he’s very smart to play it.” It needed an actor. If Montgomery Clift were still alive, he could play the character.”– says Eric Roth
