Hot love story

Acclaimed on the international scene thanks to his short films worldwide, Spanish filmmaker Javier Marco presents his first feature film, Josefina, available on September 22nd exclusively at FILMO.

This moving film tells the story of the encounter between a mother who visits her imprisoned son every week and a prison guard who prefers to hide his true identity so as not to frighten him. Both wounded by life’s inconveniences and severe loneliness, they form a tender and strange relationship.

To write the screenplay, the director turned to his loyal collaborator Belen Sánchez-Arevalo, with whom he had already worked on many projects. “Josephine is about the human need to overcome loneliness. The two characters, Juan and Berta, meet at a point in their lives where isolation has overtaken them and they have to find someone else to connect with.

When this meeting takes place, they complement each other to a certain extent, perhaps because of the common need to relate to another person.” he told her variety.

Presented at festivals and released in Spanish cinemas in November 2021, the drama has won no fewer than three nominations at the 2022 Goya ceremony (Spain’s equivalent of the Cesars), including one in the Best New Director category for Javier Marco!
