Lord of the Rings Quiz: 7 Questions About The Hobbit for True Tolkien Fans

Bad news for Hobbit fans. Peter Jackson’s trilogy will leave the Netflix catalog on September 30. So we revisit it and test our knowledge.

The world of The Lord of the Rings is more relevant than ever with the broadcast of The Rings of Power, a spin-off series set thousands of years ago. But there’s no need to go back with The Hobbit trilogy, as subscribers can (yet) find out before it leaves the platform at the end of the month.

Still directed by Peter Jackson from the writings of JRR Tolkien and filmed in New Zealand, this saga consists of an unexpected journey, the destruction of Smaug and the battle of the five armies. It is the British Martin Freeman (Sherlock) who slips into the skin of the hero. We find several famous faces or names in Lord of the Rings such as Gandalf, Legolas, Elrond, Galadriel or even Saruman. Andy Serkis will reprise his role as Gollum.

On the technical side, Peter Jackson in his previous trilogy used the process of “forced perspective” to create the illusion that some characters were larger than others (useful when you have dwarves and hobbits!). For this saga, which was offered in 3D, that wasn’t necessary. The production had to use a double but also “Slave Motion Control”.

It consists of the construction of two sets where the action takes place: the first one for the main actors, and the second one, created on a green background, for smaller or taller characters appearing on the same stage. In this way, the actors can perform the sequence in two sets simultaneously, while the cameras capture each sequence in a perfectly synchronized manner. Interesting, isn’t it?
