The “Cloverfield” franchise will have a new sequel, produced by directors JJ Abrams (“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”) and Matt Reeves (“Batman”), respectively producer and director of the first film.

The details of the plot are kept under wraps. It is only known that the new film was written by Joe Barton (“The Lazarus Project”) and will be directed by Babak Anvari, from “Under the Shadow” (2016) and “Visceral Contact” (2019).

Released in 2008, “Cloverfield: Monster” is a sci-fi horror film shot in found footage format, showing the destruction caused by a giant monster through footage made by one of the characters.
