Avatar is back in theaters in a 4K remastered version! For this occasion, we invite you to test your knowledge of the film before the release of the second opus on December 14. Can you handle the challenge?
Avatar hits theaters on September 21st, a chance to test your knowledge of the world created by James Cameron!
To recall, Avatar follows Jake Sully, an ex-Marine who is immobilized in a wheelchair. Despite the paralysis, he remained a fighter until the end of his life. He is invited to travel light years from Earth to Pandora, where powerful industrial groups are exploiting an extremely rare mineral intended to solve Earth’s energy crisis.
Because Pandora’s atmosphere is toxic to humans, they created the Avatar program, which allows human “pilots” to connect their minds to the Avatar, a remotely controlled biological body that can survive in this deadly atmosphere.
These Avatars are hybrids created by genetically interbreeding human DNA with Na’vi, the DNA of the natives of Pandora. In his avatar form, Jake can walk again.
He is assigned a mission to infiltrate the ship, which has become too important an obstacle to the exploitation of the precious ore. But everything changes when Neytiri, a very beautiful Na’avi, saves Jake’s life.
With a budget of around $240 million, Avatar is one of the most expensive feature films in film history. It also holds the record at the box office with $2.847 billion internationally.
At the time, the feature film outsold Titanic by only 6 weeks. Avengers Endgame will break this record 10 years later. The superhero film would stay at number one for two years before being toppled again by Avatar, which regained the lead thanks to a re-release in China.
The sequel, Avatar: The Waterway, hits the big screen on December 14.
