National Day of the Deaf is celebrated on 26 September. This date aims to give visibility and raise awareness on the rights and inclusion of deaf people in society. This day was established on 29 October 2008 with decree law n. 11.796.

In fact, September 26 was chosen because it is the foundation date of the National Institute of Education for the Deaf (INES), in 1857, in Rio de Janeiro. It was the first school for the deaf in Brazil and still works today.
According to 2020 data, from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), 5% of the Brazilian population is made up of deaf people, which corresponds to over 10 million citizens, of which 2.7 million are profoundly deaf, that is , I feel nothing.
