Paramount Pictures has officially removed its new movie “Star Trek” from its release schedule. The feature, expected in theaters in December 2023, recently lost the director and has not yet defined a replacement.
At the end of August, Adam Shakman (“WandaVision”) abandoned the project due to scheduling problems and decided to shoot Marvel’s Fantastic Four.
“Matt Shakman is an incredibly talented director and we regret that the times weren’t aligned for him to direct our next ‘Star Trek’ movie,” Paramount said in a statement at the time. “We are grateful for their many contributions, we are thrilled with the creative vision of this next chapter and look forward to bringing it to audiences around the world.”
The most recent version of the script was written by Josh Friedman (“Avatar: Water Way”) and Cameron Squires (“WandaVision”), who worked on a first draft signed by Lindsey Beer (“Sierra Burgess Is a Loser”) and Geneva Robertson-Dworet (“Captain Marvel”).
The latest Enterprise film to hit theaters was 2016’s “Star Trek: Without Borders”. Directed by Justin Lin, it grossed $ 343 million worldwide, the lowest of three films since the franchise’s reboot. in 2009.
The sequel is expected to reunite the cast of the three previous films: Chris Pine (Captain Kirk), Zachary Quinto (Mr. Spock), Simon Pegg (Scotty), Karl Urban (Dr. McCoy), Zoe Saldaña (Lieutenant Uhura) and John Cho ( Mr. Sulu).
