If you could only choose 4 Tom Hanks movies, what would they be?
What are the best Tom Hanks movies? The actor thinks of his almost 100 jobs as an actor, he only has four films that are “pretty good”.
Hanks has dropped it in an interview with the magazine People promoting his first novel ‘The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece’which will go on sale in the US in May 2023.
“No one knows how a movie is made, although everyone thinks they doHanks said. “I’ve done a lot of movies (four of them pretty good i think), and it still amazes me how movies are formed. From the flash of an idea to the flickering image on the screen, the entire process is a miracle.”
What are those four “pretty good” movies? Well, Hanks has not wanted to reveal it, although it will not be for lack of candidates. From the ones that won him the Oscar for Best Actor, ‘Philadelphia’ and ‘Forrest Gump‘, to the recent ‘Elvis’ and Disney’s live-action ‘Pinocchio’, going through classics like ‘Saving Private Ryan’, ‘Castaway’, ‘Big’, ‘This House is a Ruin’, ‘The Green Mile’, ‘Catch Me If You Can’, ‘Apollo 13’ and ‘An Extraordinary Friend’. To name a few.
“Making movies is very hard work over a very long period of time consisting of many moments of joy pitted against an equal amount of feelings of self-loathing,” he said. “It is the best job in the world and the most puzzling job I know”.
‘The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece’ (which could be translated as ‘The making of another film masterpiece’) will be his first fiction novel after writing several compilations of stories such as ‘Singular Types’, edited in 2018 in Spain by Roca. According to the official synopsis, the book will deal with the making of a “colossal, star-studded, multi-million dollar superhero action movie, and the humble comic book that inspired it.”
