Beyond The Fall: 8 Haunting Movies for Thrillers [LISTA]

Solitude, isolated places, imminent dangers and failed attempts at survival – check out eight plots that promise to give goosebumps

Already released in the United States, the feature The fall(or fall, in the title in English) has drawn a lot of attention from lovers of psychological suspense and plots that seem dead-end. A trigger for agoraphobia – the fear of being in situations of panic or difficult to escape – the film opens on September 29 in Brazilian cinemas and will first cause a lot of goosebumps.

In the plot, it all starts when becky (Grace Caroline Currey) loses her husband, Dan (Mason Gooding), after he falls off a mountain while climbing. After overcoming a spiral of grief and sadness, the young woman decides to accept her friend’s invitation. Hunter (Virginia Gardner) and embarks on a new adventure to conquer his fears.

With 60 thousand followers on social networks, Hunter wants to climb an abandoned radio tower to record scenes from above with a drone. The problem is that, after climbing the 2,000 feet (more than 600 meters) of the tower, the two young women end up trapped in the structure, which is in a remote desert, with no phone signal or supplies.

Though terrifying, however, The fall It’s not the first film that features characters isolated and trapped in a situation that, by all indications, may not end well. With that in mind, we have separated eight films that, like fallpromise to cause some agony—and eventually, that sigh of relief when something, anything, goes right.

1. 127 hours (2010)

We start with a classic. One of the best known of the survival genre, 127 hours it sends shivers down the spine and in many ways defines the feeling of agony. It is not at all comfortable, after all, to follow the true story of the terrifying days when the adventurer Aron Ralston (James Franco) became trapped in an uninhabited canyon.


2. Shallow Waters (2016)

the medical student Nancy Adams (Blake Lively) lives true horror scenes when being snapped by a shark while surfing on an isolated beach in Mexico. Directed by Jaume Collet-Serrathe feature follows the young woman in a frantic attempt to survive.


3. Everest (2015)

With Jason Clarke, Sam Worthington, Keira Knightley and Jake Gyllenhaalthe feature is based on a real disaster that occurred in 1996. Written by William Nicholson and Simon Beaufoy, the plot follows two expeditions, Adventure Consultants and Mountain Madness, in an attempt to climb the dreaded Mount Everest. The adventure, however, ends up spiraling out of control.


4. Panic in the Snow (2010)

Still in the theme of isolated characters and surrounded by forces of nature that they cannot control, Panic in the Snow tells the story of three friends who end up trapped in a cable car. With no expectation of being rescued by officials from the mountain where they were skiing, young people are forced to find ways to survive on their own.


5. In the Jungle (2017)

starring Daniel Radcliffethe plot is based on the true and terrifying adventure that the Israeli Ghinsberg he starred in mid-1981. Seeking new experiences, he travels to the Amazon Rainforest and, after losing himself from the adventurers who accompanied him, finds himself lost and alone in the dense forest, surrounded by wild animals and bizarre hallucinations.


6. Dangerous Game (2017)

Directed by Mike Flanaganthe suspense follows the survival attempts of Jessie (Carla Gugino) in a detached house in Alabama. Handcuffed to a bed, the woman watched the death of her husband, victim of a heart attack after trying to rape her, and, once alone, she tries to find ways to escape the situation – which becomes increasingly dangerous.


7. The Man in the Dark (2016)

Directed by Fede Alvarezit’s the kind of movie that makes you hold your breath with the characters. The Man in the Darkness follows three young Detroit delinquents who decide to break into the home of an army veteran. In a thought-provoking sequence, however, the invaders discover that the villager is blind, but far from defenseless as they had hoped.


8. Gravity (2013)

Starred by none other, none other than Sandra Bullockthe feature follows the agonizing journey of Dr. Ryan Stone through space after she totally loses control of her equipment. Alone in the frightening vastness of the universe, she has little time to find a way to survive, as her oxygen seems to be running low.

Just over 600 meters separate the protagonists from fall (A Queda, in Portuguese) from the ground below them. Isolated in a radio tower, the young becky and Hunter are stranded in a remote desert with no phone signal or supplies.
