Heroes or Heroes Series That Don’t Have Names? It exists! From Fleabag to The X-Files to Sex & the City to Doctor Who, some characters, sometimes even the main cast, lack identity. Proof by 5!
“Doctor Who”
Recall that Doctor Who (now played by Jodie Whittaker, the first woman in this role) is E.900 year old alien. This adventurer travels through time and space using his ship, the TARDIS (Time and Relativistic Dimension in Space), which has the appearance of a telephone booth to better adapt to the environment.
“In the X Files”
The Cigarette Man, nicknamed because he was always seen smoking a cigarette, is one of the main antagonists of the iconic SF show. This character’s name is partially revealed in The X-Files Season 6, then fully in the first episode of the eleventh and final season. So we are dealing with something Carl Gerhard Busch Spender, who has the significant distinction of being Mulder’s biological father.
“Flea in the Bag”
The choice not to give the character an actual identity was a conscious one on Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s part. “I wanted something that created an immediate subtext for the character,” he said Interview with Decide. “Calling him Fleabag, calling the series Fleabag, so it gives the subtext that there was a Fleabag.”
The term Fleabag, respectively Cambridge University Definition, is used to describe “a dirty and/or unpleasant person or animal”. By not giving her character her real name, but this name, Phoebe Waller-Bridge wanted to highlight this less glorious side of the character.
“Sex and the City”
“prisoner”
You obviously recognize the synopsis of The Prisoner, the iconic 60s sci-fi series helmed by Patrick McGoohan, whose character is consequently deprived of an identity we will never know. Note that the main villain of The Expectations Show, played by Leo McKern, also doesn’t have a name, as we know him as Number 2.
