Every day, AlloCiné recommends watching a movie (again) on TV. Tonight: Kirk Douglas at Brian De Palma.
After an unfortunate first experience in Hollywood (Beware of the Rabbit), Brian De Palma gained recognition in 1973 with Soeurs de Sang, a horror thriller in which he created two favorite themes: doubles and voyeurism. He then followed up this macabre vein of cinephile references – earning him the title of ‘postmodern’ filmmaker – with Paradise Ghost in 1974, followed by Carrey’s success Devil’s Ball in 1976.
Two years later, the director wants to adapt Alfred Bester’s science fiction book “The Ruined Man”, which is about a world where murder has disappeared thanks to telepathy. However, the budget of such a film does not allow him to easily find a producer, so he turns to another project, financially less ambitious, but with a similar theme. Producer Frank Yablans offered a screenplay for Fury, written by John Farris based on his novel of the same name.
New Hollywood first-timer Kirk Douglas lends his chops to Peter, a father searching for his son kidnapped by counterintelligence who wants to use his paranormal powers for political ends.
Relatively unknown, this Hitchcock-influenced fantasy work is notable for its portrayal of a marginal mutant longed for his supernatural powers and animated by a persistent weakness. on AlloCine, Fury It has an average viewer rating of 3 out of 5.
