“Dahmer” joins Netflix’s most viewed list

The Netflix series “Dahmer: An American Cannibal” continues to break audience records and now enters the list of the most viewed series in streaming history.

Since its launch, “Dahmer” has accumulated more than 496 million hours watched on the platform. This number already guarantees the spot of the ninth most viewed English-language series in Netflix history, just behind the second season of “13 Reasons Why” and “Inventing Anna”.

The trend is for Ryan Murphy’s series starring Evan Peters to continue to climb the charts and break Netflix audience records. This is because the series was released on September 21 and Netflix counts the total viewers for the first 28 days of airing.

Therefore, the series still has until October 18 to increase the numbers of the shows and climb the list even further. However, the entry of “Dahmer” into the list of the 10 most viewed series in Netflix history has a problem: this list includes only the series in the English language.

Taking into account the productions in all languages, the series about serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer occupies the number 13 position on the list, falling in the rankings due to the Korean “Round 6”, which is the most watched series in Netflix history, two seasons of the Spanish “La Casa de Papel” and the Korean drama “All of Us Are Dead”.

“Dahmer” is a co-creation of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, and follows the murders committed by serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, played by Evan Peters. The premise of the series is to tell the stories of Dahmer’s victims and the failures committed by the institutions that allowed the killer to continue his slaughter of 17 victims over a period of 13 years.

However, the series, in addition to being criticized by the family of one of the serial killer’s victims, received mixed reviews from critics. While some point to the good performance and its portrayal of systemic racism, others complain about the sensationalism in presenting a convicted killer.

“Dahmer” had the best first week among newcomers

The series had already broken ratings records before entering the most watched in history. “Dahmer” took the top spot as the most watched series in its first week of airing for a new series following its release on September 21st.

In the first five days on the platform alone, “Dahmer” achieved 196.2 million viewing hours, taking Netflix’s # 1 Top 10 position in several countries. This number is the highest for the first week of airing a new Netflix series.

For comparison, “Round 6”, the biggest audience hit in Netflix history, saw 63.1 million hours in the first week, while the first season of “All of Us Are Dead” had 124.7 million hours. millions of hours assisted in the first week. Logically, both series had an audience growth in the following weeks of airing.
