Created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, the series Dahmer: Monster – The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is one of the biggest hits on the Netflix platform. It’s the second week, and the number of viewing hours has doubled. Only Season 4 of Stranger Things was better for the same period.
This phenomenal success is accompanied by several contradictions. Among them, the reaction from the family of one of the victims, Errol Lindsey, who criticized the platform for capitalizing on their family drama. Others consider the series sensational and voyeuristic in its portrayal of violence.
The enthusiasm surrounding Dahmer also causes inappropriate reactions. As the Halloween holiday approaches, some will try to dress up as Jeffrey Dahmer. On social networks, both in France and in the United States, there are many who predict slippages.
Let’s face it, Jeffrey Dahmer is not a hype, nor is he someone to fantasize about or suppress. That’s right for this year’s Halloween costumes, we’re already seeing them far and wide and it’s seriously unhealthy

Please don’t dress up as Jeffrey Dahmer for Halloween or any other time, a matter of respect

“I am tired from this day. I’m just sad and I just finished the series on Jeffrey Dahmer on Netflix… and I just have something on my heart to say: please. No. you Disguise yourself. in this man. for Halloween.“
Elevating Jeffrey Dahmer to movie characters like Michael Myers or Jason Voorhees helps to hide the facts, namely the fate of the 17 murdered men. This theme is even explored in the series, when the “Milwaukee Cannibal” receives letters from fans in prison.
The screen adaptation of such a case breaks the line between fiction and reality for many. It is important to remember that the relatives of the dead are still alive. Turning their injury into a mere disguise is entirely consistent with the flaws the series has pointed out.
On her show The View, actress Whoopi Goldberg put it right: “I think if we tell you these stories, know that those who are a part of these stories are still with us..β
The macabre fetishization of crime stories is nothing new, and Jeffrey Dahmer disguises have been done in the past. Instead of rekindling the excitement surrounding the killer, Dahmer’s series may instead be the right way to desensitize certain audiences to bring him back to reality.
