The creators, producers and main actors of The Walking Dead agreed to talk to us about the challenges of the third and final part of the final season of the horror series, every Monday exclusively on OCS Choc and the OCS platform. in the request.
What can we expect from this new season and the new threats facing our heroes?
Angela Kang (Showrunner): The walkers are getting more agile and fast, and our heroes will have to outsmart themselves to survive. They will have to change their battle strategy and adapt. As you know, this will be the last season and so it is important to find a conclusion that satisfies everyone after all these years.
Greg Nicotero (special effects manager, director): I wouldn’t say that the walkers have acquired any kind of intelligence, but in any case they have evolved and are much more dangerous than before.
Scott Gimple (producer): Most other shows like Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad have five or six seasons. We had to work together for eleven seasons. It was a long-term job, and it wasn’t easy to update myself one last time for this season, which concludes the saga of The Walking Dead.
Growing up George A. Romero’s zombie movies and I’m proud to have made zombies even cooler with our series. This series is truly a testament to the genius of a man who wants to survive at all costs and with all the sacrifices it requires. Moreover, doing the final season is always very stressful because we are left with the impression that the last episode of the series left.
Usually, people judge a series as a whole on the last impression of the last episode. I hope you will not be disappointed and will keep the positive image of our series.
Is this really the end of the series or will the ending open up to the announcement of future spin-offs?
Scott Gimple: No, it’s definitely a permanent end to this group of heroes facing walkers. We didn’t plan an ending that would make you think we’re making other spin-offs. This is definitely the conclusion of this saga that has lasted for eleven seasons.
Angela Kang: I think you’ll be satisfied with this ending that won’t leave you hungry. But like comics, there’s always an opportunity to start another story. This story we’ve been telling for eleven seasons will well and truly come to an end either way.
As your character has evolved over the years, what is the character trait you like best about him?
Norman Reedus (Daryl): His honesty. He is a character who is not afraid to say what he thinks loud and clear. He is honest and truthful.
Josh McDermitt (Eugene): I think the great thing about Eugene is his big heart and compassion. It wasn’t like that when you met him, he was quite selfish. I believe that today he is ready to make any sacrifice to save his friends.
Seth Gilliam (Gabriel): Honesty is also his best trait. But Father Gabriel is a resilient man, but he can also get angry. He always wants to do what seems right and will do anything to do it.
Lauren Ridloff (Connie): Connie is incredibly strong. I admire his bravery and how he never runs away from danger. He is very strong.
Kaylee Fleming (Judith): Judith never gives up and fights for her family at all costs. I admire his strength.
Michael James Shaw (Mercer): My character is so loyal it’s almost unbearable. Sometimes he doesn’t realize the danger and doesn’t realize how to really deal with the challenges at that moment. But his commitment to ensuring everyone’s survival is admirable.
What are your fondest memories of eleven seasons of The Walking Dead?
Lauren Cohan (Maggie): What will stick with me after all these years is this community that we created between all these actors, these technicians, these writers and our directors and producers. Our community is what keeps us going, keeps our humanity intact. Nothing is more important than human relationships and that is the message of this series. Otherwise we would all be zombies.
