The scam artist who inspired Netflix’s “Inventing Anna” is released on bail in the United States

After paying a US $ 10,000 (approximately R $ 51,900) bail, Russian coup artist Anna Sorokin was released in the United States last Friday (7). She presented herself as the heir to a German family and deceived the New York elite.

Anna’s story gained popularity in Brazil after being featured in “Inventing Anna”, a Netflix miniseries. The production is written by screenwriter Shonda Rhimes and stars actress Julia Garner, winner of three Emmy Awards for “Ozark”.

In the ruling, an immigration judge ordered Anna’s parole after paying the bail. The scammer will be under house arrest for electronic monitoring and she could be deported from the United States: she has also been banned from accessing social media.

Anna was born in Russia and moved to Germany at the age of 16. She later moved to New York and assumed the identity of a wealthy German heiress named Anna Delvey, beginning to live a life of luxury by deceiving the high society of the American territory.

In New York, Anna was able to travel for free to other countries, frequent expensive restaurants with famous people in the United States and stay in luxury hotels. All of this was done by the scammer at the expense of her friends, declaring and promising that she would pay the money “soon”.

The fraud was discovered and Anna was arrested in October 2017. She was able to obtain loans by submitting fake bank statements and was on the verge of raising $ 22 million until the scheme was exposed.
