Four years after the release of Back to the Future and its huge success, Robert Zemeckis and his screenwriter Bob Gale are back with the second part, which was announced at the end of the previous film.
We find the original actors Michael J. With Fox as Marty McFly, Christopher Lloyd as the mad scientist, and Thomas F. Wilson to portray Biff more odious than ever. The only exception is Elizabeth Sue, who takes on the role of Jennifer, Marty’s girlfriend, replacing Claudia Wells, who was unavailable for personal reasons.
The film opens with a distraught Doc from the future arriving to inform Marty and his fiancee Jennifer that their future offspring is in danger. Indeed, Marty Jr. is about to become an accomplice in an attempted robbery at the Hill Valley Mall alongside Griff (Biff’s grandson) and end up in jail.
So our three heroes go to the future together in the famous DeLorean. But like any self-indulgent time travel, this intrusion will set off a chain reaction that will eventually bring Doc and Marty back to 1955 Hill Valley to set things right.
The film is a new commercial success, grossing $330 million worldwide against an initial budget of $40 million. This will lead to a third film, this time set in the Wild West.
