Warning, spoilers. Before continuing reading this article, it is advisable to watch the first eight episodes of House of the Dragon.
the first season Dragon House It’s already had its share of deaths, but Episode 8 has the most moving deaths yet. This chapter, which promised to be quite a tense family reunion, allowed a prominent member of the Targaryen family to experience one last fun moment. But at what cost?
The increasingly ill King Visser Targaryen (Paddy Considine), breathed her last at the end of episode 8 after protecting her daughter Renira (Emma D’Arcy) and after the shocking revelation of his wife Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke). If his death was sad, it was not surprising because of the state of his health.
Speculation has been rife about the nature of Viserys’ illness, and some fans have been looking for any clues. We could see Viserys on the Iron Throne with cuts on his hands, swords made, but we could also see him having episodes of dementia. But his illness was never mentioned in the series.
Paddy Considine revealed in an interview today what illness Viserys was suffering from Entertainment Weekly And this is the form of leprosy:
“He actually has a form of leprosy. His body is deteriorating, his bones are deteriorating. He’s not really old. He’s still young there. He has, unfortunately, this thing that’s taken over his body. It becomes a metaphor. Your build and the stress and strain , that makes you, and what it does to you physically, what it does to you mentally.”
Leprosy is a chronic infectious disease that primarily affects the skin, peripheral nerves, mucous membrane of the upper respiratory tract, and eyes. And you could clearly see on Viserys’ face how much the disease affected him from episode to episode. His death in any case would have dramatic consequences for the royal family.
