Doctor Strange 2 director Sam Raimi gave more details about the film and reflected on the horror elements he brought to the production
One of the most anticipated films of the year, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness(2022) is directed by Sam Raimi — and will soon hit theaters. In a press release, the filmmaker gave more details about the film and reflected on the elements of horror he brought to the production.
Raimi is best known among the public for directing the franchise Spider manstarring Tobey Maguire. However, the filmmaker began directing horror productions, with A Hallucinating Night: The Devil’s Death (1981) being his first feature film.
Therefore, Raimi revealed how excited he was when Kevin Feigepresident of marvel studiosannounced wanting elements of terror in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. “I love to venture into horror. It’s always been a fun aspect of filmmaking for me,” said the director.
The filmmaker added: “Also, I am interested in Doctor Strange as a character because he is a magician. As a kid, I was a magician at children’s parties and weddings and things like that. I really liked the idea of creating an illusion. So a superhero who is an illusionist and a magician is particularly interesting.”
Furthermore, Raimi explained how he is a big fan of the franchise of Doctor Strange — and loved it when he received the offer to direct a film in the saga. “It was a very smart and interesting film. I loved how they gave a taste of Eastern thought and religion combined with the superhero image. I thought it was unique and I really liked it. So when that offer came in, I thought it would be a really good challenge. It had been a long time since I made a superhero movie and I wondered if I could still make it. That alone was reason enough,” he concluded.
