For its part, the debut feature by Valencian director Avelina Prat, ‘Vasil’, will be the second Spanish film in competition.

    ‘The master gardener’ (Master Gardener), by Paul Schrader, will close the event on Sunday, October 29. The film, which is presented out of competition, marks the return of the American screenwriter and director to the Official Section of the festival, where he will participate for the sixth time.

    Ireland, guest country

    Ireland will be the guest country in this edition: 18 feature films, four of them documentaries and a session of animated shorts, make up the sample of Irish cinema over the last two decades, which will be completed with the screening of the film ‘Into the West’, from mike newell. the irish manager Jim Sheridanauthor of titles such as ‘My Left Foot’, ‘In the Name of the Father’ and ‘In America’, will receive one of the Spikes of Honor of this edition and will give a master class.     The Seminci 2022 International Jury will be chaired by the Irish actress of theater, cinema and kate o’toole tv. She is accompanied by Jorge Arriagada, Chilean composer; Argentine film critic and image and sound designer Pablo de Vita; the screenwriter and film and television director Patricia Ferreira; Mexican sound designer Martín Hernández; the director, screenwriter and producer Gracia Querejeta; Marie-Pierre Richard, programmer/curator of the French Film Festival at the Irish Film Institute in Dublin and of the East Asia Film Festival in Ireland, and Tanya Valette, Dominican screenwriter, analyst and consultant for audiovisual projects and cultural manager.

    Tiempo de Historia, dedicated to the documentary genre, will bring together this year a selection of 17 feature films, some of them winners at festivals such as Cannes, Berlin and Sundance, along with another nine short and medium-length films. In addition, the competitive section dedicated exclusively to the Spanish documentary, DOC. Spain, starring key figures from the world of Spanish culture, will program 16 feature films dedicated to figures such as Clara Campoamor, Emilia Pardo Bazán, Luis García Berlanga, Florián Rey or Diego Velázquez, among others.

    Likewise, this new edition will feature the Gourmet Cinema sectionwhich will have gastronomy as its common thread, and with Cinema & Climate Changein which sustainable fashion, the melting of the arctic and the preservation of natural spaces will be the protagonists.

    This new edition of the Valladolid film festival will bring together in the Spanish Cinema section 12 of the most outstanding titles of Spanish production released in the last yearsigned by filmmakers such as Alauda Ruiz de Azúa, Alberto Rodríguez, Carla Simón, Isaki Lacuesta, Jonás Trueba, Rodrigo Sorogoyen or Santi Amodeo, among others.

    After being interrupted for two years due to the pandemic, it returnsthis year, in person programming for viewers from 4 to 18 years: Seminci Joven and the Miniminci. In addition, the feature film ‘I’m going to have a good time’ will be screened, by the director and screenwriter David Serrano, shot in the streets of Valladolid to the rhythm of the songs of Hombres G.

    The Spikes of Honor will be given, in addition to Jim Sheridanto the directors Fernando Colom, Manuel Gutierrez Aragon, Chema Sarmientoto the actress Victoria April and the producer Andres Vicente Gomez. the spanish actor Anthony Resines will also receive this award during the Closing Gala on October 29.

    The 67th edition will host the sixth Women Filmmakers Forum, which will take place on October 22 and 23. The meeting organized by Seminci and the Caimán Cuadernos de Cine magazine will deal with the theme “Women in film criticism”, where the role played by women in the world of film criticism will be discussed and the conclusions of which will be made known to the public on the second day.
