“There is much more at stake here than just our lives,” Arondir warns Bronwyn at one point. As Adar and his armies officially reclaimed Mordor (they named it after him), the biggest mystery that remains remains that of the man with the horned mask. Who is Sauron, the dark lord?
The good news is that Amazon had a multi-season commitment to The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power when it was first announced, so a second installment is already in the works. We can rest assured that the story will continue and will not leave us with questions in the air.
While the series has faced some criticism, there is no doubt that it has been an achievement in bringing broader representation to the franchise with key characters played by Nazanin Boniadi (Bronwyn), Ismael Cruz Córdova (Arondir), Cynthia Addai-Robinson ( Miriel) and much more.
“Even in the love story between Ismael and I, you’re looking at an Afro-Latino man and a Middle Eastern woman,” Boniadi recently said of the Bronwyn and Arondir pairing. “If you look at love interests, and even within our own communities, there is intolerance.”
Sadly, the cast, including Ismael Cruz Córdova, have received racist backlash for the even and diverse character of the show’s cast, but their co-stars and stars of the ‘Lord of the Rings’ film franchise publicly supported them. Sadly, it’s not yet that time when a character’s non-white character doesn’t generate controversy or headlines. But, no matter who it weighs, it is undoubtedly one more step towards one day nobody paying attention to race or clashing with diversity.
‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ is broadcast on Amazon Prime Video Spain, with new chapters every Friday.
