Extra: Alan, Britney and the Spaceship: What is this SF movie for kids?

The Danish animated film “Extra: Alan, Britney and the Spaceship” is released in our cinemas this Wednesday. A beautiful story about the friendship between a lonely little boy and an alien.

• Once: Alan is a little boy who can’t find anyone to play with in his new neighborhood. One night, when lightning strikes his building’s antenna, he sees an unidentified glowing object crash into a nearby soccer field. Then Alan discovers Brittney, a little alien… How can we help her repair the spaceship? How will you hide this grumbling from the old neighbors? This is the beginning of additional adventures!

• What do they like: Mika and Sebastian: The Adventure of a Giant Pear After 5 years, Danish director Amalie Nasby Fick returns with her first solo feature extra: Alan, Britney and the Spaceship.

It’s an adventure again, but this time the hero is Alan, a little boy who befriends Britney, a young alien who has come undercover to study humans. When the manager of an alien UFO club discovers Britney’s existence, he decides to put her down for his collection… then the chase begins.

Britney brightens up the little boy’s life with her honesty and strength and forces him to express his feelings. A real sci-fi movie for kids.

• What might bother them:

  • The film begins with an argument between Alan’s parents, and they announce their intention to divorce their son. The boy’s mother does not feel that he is not able to get an education, Alan leaves to live with his father in an apartment.
  • Left to his own devices, Alan meets his neighbor, a slightly cheeky alien, who is convinced that the boy is an extraterrestrial. The latter will use Alan as an “antenna” and betray him a little later.
  • The film’s villain is obsessed with taxidermy. She feeds the animals and decides to tuck Britney in… If nothing is clearly shown, these scenes might scare the little ones.

What will they keep inside? : It’s pretty rare for a movie aimed at children to talk about divorce, and this feature film shows the impact that the argument and movement can have on a child without judgement.

Express your feelings

In the movie, Alan is sad, but he doesn’t tell anyone. Extra: Alan, Brittney and the Spaceship let kids know that it’s important to say what we feel and show our discomfort.
Britney, who reads minds, is the only one who sees that Alan is not well. And thanks to this little alien, the boy managed to open up to his parents.

The movie shows that adults also have their own problem and that sometimes they don’t notice that their child is in bad shape. Therefore, it is important to express your feelings.

The examples of the neighbor who no longer speaks to his former lover, or the villain’s brother who lost his hamster as a child, all prove that secrets can destroy lives.

Extras: Alan, Britney and the spaceship It hits theaters this Wednesday, October 19.
