Every day, AlloCiné recommends watching a movie (again) on TV. Tonight: Jean Dujardin and Adele Hennel’s first foray into the world of Quentin Dupierre.
“Forty-year-old Georges leaves his wife and his job overnight to buy the jacket of his dreams: a suede coat with studs…which he ends up falling in love with.” The pitch is at least as crazy as its author, Quentin Dupierre, who has become the king of the absurd in cinema over the course of several films.
In its atypical works, Le Daim still positions itself as a separate film. The director actually considers it his first “realistic” film, one that really confronts madness without special effects or art. Following in the footsteps of the Kervergne-Delepine duo I Feel Good, Jean Dujardin slips into this world with ease and creates a very down-to-earth character.
For his seventh feature film, Quentin Dupierre signs a dark comedy that takes a heartening look at the foibles of our society. As a bonus, we’re treated to Tarantino-worthy graphic violence, a film within a film, and a very appropriate Adele Hennel as a montage-obsessed waitress.
