Every day, AlloCiné recommends watching a movie (again) on TV. Tonight: One of the best French comedies of the 90s.
In 1998, Francis Weber adapted his own play. A fool’s supper, in the cinema. In this way, the actor Jacques Villere takes on the role of naive Francois Pignon, which he has played on stage since 1993. On the screen, he is surrounded by no less funny actors: from Thierry Lhermitte, as a petty and selfish bourgeois, to Francis Huster. by Daniel Prevost, who shines as Lucien Chevalier, a diligent tax auditor.
Le Dîner de cons is one of those rare French comedies – like Les Trois Frères or La Chèvre – that you can watch almost endlessly without getting tired of it. His story behind closed doors does not suffer from dead time thanks to the accuracy of the actors, the rhythm of his narration, his avalanche and his sharp dialogues (a misunderstanding with Marlene Sasser, the Belgian producer and the highlight of the show: a call to Juste LeBlanc!).
Nominated 6 times at the 24th César Awards in 1999, the film won three awards: Best Actor for Jacques Villeret, Best Supporting Actor for Daniel Prévost and Best Screenplay for Francis Weber.
With access to over 9 million cinemas, A fool’s supper In 1998, it is in second place at the French box office, after Titanic. It has an average viewer rating of 4.2 out of 5 on AlloCiné.
