The production manager of ‘Killing Eve’ is very clear about it, although we don’t want to believe her.
At first ‘Killing Eve’ was about the obsession and mutual attraction between an MI6 investigator, Eve, and an assassin from The 12, Villanelle. However, the series put aside the attraction between the two protagonists to focus on revenge against The 12. It is true that Villanelle killed Eve’s ex-husband, a poor and good man who had nothing to do with it, but the series he grabbed like a straw for revenge against The 12 for another reason, the murder of Kenny, Eve’s partner and Carolyn’s son. In this way, Eve and Carolyn began their personal crusade beyond MI6 to end The 12. Villanelle, seeking her freedom, became an ally to free herself from her by also destroying her previous masters.

This is how we get to the end of the fourth season of ‘Killing Eve’, in which Eve and Villanelle come together and manage, supposedly, to end the dome of The 12. However, while both are celebrating together, some snipers shoot down Villanelle at Carolyn’s behest, the price she paid to get back in the game, to MI6, or at least forgive her sins with rival intelligence services. But who killed Kenny? Eve tells Carolyn just before that she probably knows, but that she’s deluded herself into telling herself she’s not to move on, to entertain herself, to not face reality.
Sally Woodward Gentle, the series’ lead producer, has responded to dead line the unknown, and for her it is clear.
I think it’s a bit up in the air if he did. I think Carolyn, deep in her heart, knew that Konstantin was ultimately responsible for Kenny’s death, but she needed an excuse to stay in the game and stay busy. Having something to push her through the strange pain of Kenny’s death was the only thing keeping her alive. I think ultimately Konstantin was probably responsible for Kenny’s death. But who knows?
There will be those who will be hurt even more by the end of ‘Killing Eve’ knowing that the love story between Carolyn Konstantin, whose last words were “I’ve always loved you” for Carolyn, now has this black hole in the form of a murdered son in the middle . So we are not surprised that Carolyn has ended up being the true psychopath of the series. For something Carolyn and Konstantin will have their own spin-off.
